Romans 8:28 (NASB) And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
God isn’t some sort of passive, hands-off deity who sits back with His feet up and doesn’t care about anything. No…Paul says we can know, with confidence, that our God is intricately involved in everything, from sustaining the world to being involved little detail of our lives.
“Work together” comes from the Greek word, “sunergeon” which is where we get the English word, “synergy.”
God is synergistically combining all the individual things that have happened in our lives, including the hard and painful experiences, so that together they produce God’s end product in our lives, which Paul says is “for good.”
Paul tethers the word “good” here to something bigger…and far better…than simply good circumstances. He is working EVERYTHING in your life to ensure you become like Jesus, which is the ultimate definition of “good.”
Romans 8:29-30 (NASB) 29 For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brothers an sisters; 30 and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified.
“Foreknew”: God knows us, and set his love upon us, before we even existed.
“Predestined”: God’s fixed and determined promise to fulfill His purpose in our lives.
“Called”: God’s effectual summoning into a relationship with Him.
“Justified”: Jesus’ death on the cross removed all of our guilt and shame forever.
“Glorified”: The eradication of all sin and to be made perfect in body and soul.
